Incoming (Lights In The Sky)
Quite honestly the best show I've been to so far.
A clip from 'Only' (sound quality is pretty meh, but whatever), showcasing some of the cool shit they did with the lights. It was a double and triple screen-wall setup, so Trent could walk in front of and behind and "through" it, with the effects timed and layered on top of each other, in time to the music.
At one point, they played...I think it was 'The Four Of Us Are Dying', and the backdrop looked like a swamp at sunset, and then the wall of static came down over it as the song came to a close, to make it look like it was RAINING as the sun went down.
"Incredible" is an insufficient word.
Just when they played 'The Hand That Feeds' and I thought the awesome for the evening had peaked, they broke directly into 'Head Like A Hole'.
They made sure to play 'Discipline' (which has extra kick to it live) and 'Closer' within the first third of the set, and put them away--and MAN, did they put it away. Perfectly.
Yay, played my favorite! ♥ (No, it's not 'Closer'.)
'Hurt' was powerful. All but the drunkest of us were dead silent or singing along, and by the end, people had their lighters out, swaying. If this band went in for easy-cash-out 'Live!' albums, this track would definitely make an appearance.
'The Greater Good' is very sexy live. Very. <3
Best part of the whole show? The ripple of approving laughter that accompanied his reclamation of the phrase "crown of shit" ('Hurt'). Not so best part? Two or three drunk dudes--sounded like at least three--who then randomly yelled "SHIT!" whenever there were pauses and throughout the last two songs.
'March Of The Pigs' CRASHES live. I'm not into "noise" tracks for their own sake, so I've never liked it, but live? It KILLS. It's fucking awesome.
'Letting You', probably the most middling and barely-okay song off 'The Slip', is also fantastic live.
Basically, he put together a very solid set from throughout his career, and shredded the hell out of it, WITH pretty shiny lights.
And I had fourth-row seats, just one side of stage center.
Fun point: everybody went apeshit for 'Survivalism', then kind of paused and milled about nervously for the first verse or so of 'God Given'.
That is how you can tell I live in a red state. XD
Fantastic show, Mr. Reznor, and come see us again sometime. Y'hear? ^_^
