Working Timeline (Molten Wax)

I realized that if I'm going to actually WRITE and FINISH my master plan, instead of letting it become Shadows 2.0, I have to have a reasonable idea of the Romulan history relative to the rest of the Star Trek universe.

Being a TOS Trekker, and primarily a books!only Trekker within the TOS, a lot of this makes me go "huh?", but whatever; TNG/DS9 Romulus is Nero's home environment, so, off to the Youtubes.

Trek XI relevant dates, where available, are underlined and red.

Early History: During the 4th century, a group of Vulcans left their homeworld and settled the planets Calder II, Dessica II, Draken IV, Yadalla Prime and Barradas III. This civilization, called the Debrune, was regarded as a predecessor of the Romulan Star Empire. After their odyssey, which lasted for centuries, the Vulcans finally reached Romulus, a planet that matched all their needs and seemed as a perfect place to begin a new civilization.

2154: The show Enterprise show makes some canon nudges supporting the running Romulans-are-Vulcans theory, noting that they are "distant brothers" "who march under the raptor's wing".

2232: Spock born.

2233: Kirk born. USS Kelvin engages Narada and is destroyed. Captain Robau's decisive bravery here enables George Kirk to take all the credit, albeit posthumously, since they both get killed and all.

2258: USS Enterprise engages Narada above Vulcan shortly before the planet's destruction.

2266: Kirk tangles with the unnamed Romulan Commander. Noteworthy for two reasons: it's the first time we see Romulans, and the Commander is played by Mark Lenard, went on to assume the role of Sarek (Spock's dad) in later series.

2350's (approximated based on given reference date 2372): the Klingon Kor leads an attack on Romulus, "which Worf had been told about when he was younger". We may have a confirmed date for this once some upcoming comics hit the stands.

2371: The Cardassian Obsidian Order and the Romulan Tal Shiar (secret police) join forces to attack the Founder homeworld and suffer devastating losses.

2374: Neral is Praetor at this time. You care because the Praetor is the Romulan king/president/emperor. He really should be emperor; it's called the Romulan Star Empire, but w/e.

Also 2374: Romulan military operatives hijack the supersekrit USS Prometheus and get orders mid-op to deliver it to the Tal Shiar, suggesting this organization survived the disastrous failure above, where the Obsidian Order disbanded or comitted mass suicide or whatever Cardassians do when they're routed in battle.

2375: During the Dominion War, "Romulus hosted a Federation Alliance conference".

2379: Hiren is Praetor at this time; Remans give him the CRUSH KILL DESTROY treatment with some radiation canisters or something IDEK; Nemesis was fucking stupid. *Headhurt.*

2387: The destruction of Romulus and other events as outlined in "Countdown".

Technically, at this point the next date is again 2233, in which Nero and company reappear and start smashing it up. But only if you're really into the time paradox crap.

In the books, Romulus' capital is styled either "Ra'tleihfi" or "Ki Bataran"; let's play dialect difference and call it a day.

"Eisn" = Romulan sun, according to Diane Duane.

Romulans have a given name, two middle names, and a house name, and ONE of these four names is their locator name, but I can't seem to get a fix on which is which.

Note: given name is almost never more than three syllables long.
