Uh-Huh That's Right
Jan. 7th, 2007 01:58 pmSlowly and craftily getting Stepdad hooked. Mostly by all but slapping him over the head with Fullmetal disc.
"Whoa! Yeah. It's cool! Intense. But cool!" *Watching Izumi's demon!homunculus!baby writhe and scream in the Circle* "Yeah. Won't be something your mom watches anytime soon."
Every thirty seconds (or so) I was like, "And this is why we don't show Fullmetal to mom."
*Roughly to the tune of the Blue Danube waltz* Blood, blood, death, death, futilityyy, death, death, mourning, futilityyy, death, blood. XD
Because they're all mid-arc episodes. So liek, Ed must kill for the first time, the State are merciless, and the whole "bajillion souls in Scar's arm" thing begins to become an issue. Plus or minus poor Maes Hughes and the Rockbells.
Who am I fucking kidding? Fullmetal Alchemist is a grim fairytale about why the dead should STAY dead, no matter how much you love or miss them, because BAD THINGS HAPPEN GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEAD.
Only it's vaguely Buddhist in execution, so I feel safe. XD
And the ending of the series isn't sad. You can't call it happy, there's no, "And then I woke up and everything was shining, and my brother was whole and well!" denouement, but it's not the usual Japanese "ROCKS FALL EVERYONE DIES" ending either. But anywayz.
My crowning achievement? The following issued forth from Stepdad's mouth: "Greed is cool! I like Greed! Is there more Greed?"
I lit up like a true Greed fanthing: "Yeah, yeah there is! He has smaller appearances in, like 'Assault on South Headquarters' and, I think, 'Sin'." He was kinda fading on me at that point so I was all, "But yeah, there's more Greed, I just don't have the infinite money to acquire the other discs. Oh, and Scar's brother *spoiler*."
I think we've got a live one, here, folks. ^_^
Also, finally got around to seeing the War of the Worlds remake.
That was good. *Purr.*
They got some stuff right. They got everything wrong, because, but they got some stuff right. About stuff. If I did not know, would I care? Would it matter?
Of course not. The lens is warped.
Tom Cruise should do more disaster/scary films. That would be fun.
