Taste (Matters Thereof)
May. 11th, 2008 07:11 pmI have never liked pineapple. Ever. I loathed it as a child. To the point of retching from the smell alone. Parents tried every method of store-bought conveyance in the world: canned, frozen, dried, shredded in trail mix, whatever.
It was firmly lodged on the Do Not Eat list, alongside fruit cocktail, canned pears, and, well, honestly, most fruit.
UNTIL.
Last week, at the farmer's market, Stepdad purchased one. And it had been ripening on the counter until today.
And. Oh. <3
I finally understand.
It's like mango, but milder and almost too sweet, and just, yes, MINE. NOW.
(But it's like this with farmer's market tomatoes, also. I mean, I've always adored tomatoes, but these are grown locally somewhere and HUGE, with a strong flavor and a seriously almost-like-actual-Italian-tomatoes firmness and excellent texture. Store food apparently really is made of plastic?)
And it's actually cheaper at the market. *Boggle as an adjective.* I mean, some stuff has greater markup, but it would probably be worth it if it's all this good.
Wow. <3
Also: my great love, especially for summer. *Murr.*
(Specific brand is not an issue; I think mine are Blue Bird or something, and 20 calories a whack. Best low-cal candy ever--it's made of nothing but invert sugar and peppermint oil. So, um, if you're actually looking for "diet" material made of SUGAR? Look no further.)
