Fen? (A Man's Opinion Must Be Valid)

On the Rabidity of Certain Fanbases.

See, the thing with Trek fen? We're patient, after a fashion, and that fashion is this:

"I will wait, but you had BETTER NOT SCREW WITH ME once the wait is over."

We don't like it. Really.

We will not watch your Enterprise, and we do not care if that guy from Quantum Leap is in it. In general, we're sharp to go with that reclusive bent the others make such fun of, and that sharpness will keep us from pouring ad dollars down your sinks for the most part.

You treat my captain with the respect he deserves, and I'll follow you into hell singing your anthem with a smile. You fuck with me, I'm gone, and I don't look back.

I'm a Browncoat. I'm not a Whedonist/Whedonite. (Yes, there's a difference.)

I'm whatever odd word this fellow would call MK fen, and it is the only game-derived fandom for which I have ever felt a devotion comparable to the Trek thing.

It was really something awesome, recently. Boon was all "so this is canon" and MK fen cut eyes at him and more or less said "if it is, we walk" and now it's not canon.

Yeah. We scare our fandom's co-founder.

I think I'd care more about Shoryuken.com's opinion of us if their userbase were less fascinated with abortion-by-staircase. XD

What did Boon back down on? The stupid comic crossover or killing everyone?

Browncoats are awesome. I'm a general Whedonist or whatever of course, but if you pick just one of his projects, Firefly's the one to pick.

It was pretty rad.

And I get to write Kitana/Selina now, so it's infinitely less painful. ^_~

Yeah, cannot say with a straight face that I'm a Whedon-whatever. Firefly is awesome. <3

I think it's mostly that I'm really put off by Whedonesque. And the actual face/face Whedonites I've met, who are not as nice as you.

I like parts of Buffy. Just not Buffy herself. XD

I really liked Dr. Horrible...until I saw the video.

It was like Joss woke up one morning and went, "I'm gonna do EXACTLY what I did to kill Wash, and they'll all CHEER. WATCH." It felt really manipulative and not nice and like he was deliberately telling us all to fuck off because HE'S JOSS WHEDON and he can do whatever he wants to his own characters.

Which, I mean, absolutely he is and absolutely he can, but that was still a completely unnecessary slap in the face for no reason. WTF. Srysly.

*deep breath* Anyway, yes, Greed icons are love and I'm really really pleased with them and also with you for finding them for me. <3

And it's total complete derail, but good luck tomorrow.

Oh, hey, no offense taken on the Whedon thing. I know you don't like anything but Firefly. You don't have to like anything but Firefly. You don't even have to like Firefly, but I'm happy you do.

I just saw your Greed icon, remembered how much I love it and others I found you, and felt the need for some random fuzziness. <3 Because Greed is awesome. And awesome Greed icons are awesome^2.

I don't personally get bent out of shape when Joss kills off people. (Wash was hard, but I'm good at ignoring it?) But lots of people were upset about Penny. Joss does kind of tend to go around in circles, and I think killing people off suddenly and brutally may be one of his personal buttons, but I don't think he does it to be intentionally mean to his fanbase. His deaths usually serve a purpose. The death of Wash had me absolutely convinced in Serenity that it was entirely possible they were any or all of them going to die. If Wash hadn't died, I don't think he would have succeeded in making me feel that everyone else was in serious peril. So often, you know that characters are safe no matter how much trouble they get in. So the death of Wash was cold and calculated, but not pointless, as far as story structure went. And Dr. Horrible would have been a completely different story if Penny hadn't died. (Also, she drove me crazy, so, well, I wasn't sad to see her go...)

Anyway, it's a touchy subject, but that's why I harbor no grudges toward him.
