Certain cards tend to crop up over and over in my readings. Others I never get. I've formulated my own understandings accordingly. Shorthand mainly, but since I'm not working on the understanding that they're magic--I think of them as a stylized inkblot test; they'll tell you what you expect to have happen and are really thinking about--some of the meanings are different, and necessarily so.

But if I give you this ticket for free
Can you guarantee me
No betrayal?

Pentacles are money. Wands are work. Swords are woe. Cups are drama.

King of Pentacles: The Elrond card.

Queen of Swords: The Xena card.

King of Cups, reversed: an alcoholic, the seduction of alcohol, pulling downward water, undertow.

King of Wands, reversed: hungry destruction. Willful dissipation. Petty tyrant...Also, Koteth. XD

Four of Pentacles: don't clutch so tightly to what you have.

Six of Pentacles: triple-check your bank balance--make sure you have everything in writing. (It's supposed to mean something else, but this is all it has ever meant in my personal readings. Maybe because of surrounding cards?)

Ten of Pentacles: a wall of shields. Strong financial protection. Provider, providing; family finances/larger financial picture looks sound.

Ten of Cups: positive family card.

Ten of Wands: pick-up-sticks man. Depends on the deck. In my deck he reads upright as picking up more sticks (more work, more burden, more responsibilities) and reversed as being flighty about the same/dropping the ball/dumping everything; in most decks the opposite is true.

Ten of Swords: the backstab card. Someone/something fucked you over, out of the blue--or is plotting/setting up to do so. Sometimes means shooting yourself in the foot: depends on the other cards, or the question itself.

Ten of Swords, reversed: you're already stabbed. The worst is over. What doesn't kill you can make you stronger. You're not dead; pick yourself up.

...Tens in general are a maximum, a zenith, "a lot" of whatever the card represents.

The World: a major balancing act. Get it right and "the world can be yours". Look out for karma on the way up.

The World, reversed: topsy-turvy. Trainwreck. Not always bad! If you asked the cards about something bad that's happening to you, this is a pretty good indication that it's about to come screeching to a stop. Just be careful you don't get thrown off, too.

Judgement: I see it a lot. It seems to be positive. I'm not sure what it's supposed to do.

The Sun: I almost never see this card.

The Moon: someone in your immediate circle is blowing smoke up your ass. It's usually not serious, but watch your back.

The Star: short-term pleasure, immediate gratification in some small way. Reversed: emo kid.

The Tower: ruin. Raining down of destruction. Massive sudden reversal.

Death: peril. Sometimes, despite everything they'll tell you, this card is literal. Be especially alert if it appears near the tower. I'm perfectly serious. Watch the fuck out. Sometimes, on a lesser scale, life is just fucking with you by handing you this card. Finality. THE END in big glowing letters. I've never seen it reversed.

Temperance: balancing act. Be on your best behavior.

Temperance, reversed: wastrel behavior; clean up your act; other people want to think the worst of you--don't let them be right. Unless you want them to be right, in which case, full steam ahead.

Devil: the personal-demon card. Enslaved by same; out of control.

Reversed: lesser personal demons; trivial bad habits.

Hanging Man: this card always made me queasy, even before, but I hardly ever see it, so I don't know.

The Wheel/Fortune: I've come to associate it as "a turn for the worse", but it's supposed to be positive. Go figure.

The Hermit: isolation. Either you want to be alone or feel like you are alone. Try meditating or puzzling the issue through on your own, sans input, before rushing to see what others think.

Strength: I almost never see this card. Srysly. I think I've seen it twice in three years.

Chariot: I see this a lot. Travel? Ye Olden Switcheroo. Full steam ahead; keep your eye on the prize and don't get thrown.

Reversed: *honk honk SCREEEEEEECH* CRASH!1!!1

Priest: hahahaha. XD

Emperor: hah! For everyone else, authority.

Empress: congratulations, you're pregnant! Nah, I dunno. I barely see this card.

Priestess: two minds, two-headed issue. Non-familial version of the Empress.

Magician: you wanna be startin' somethin', you got to be startin' somethin'.

The Fool: look out, moron! Sure, the path LOOKS exciting, but watch where the hell you put your feet.

When will I ever learn?
It's not a place to focus [...]
So be my blinding clerical guide
And show me how to live
In this game
