Overdue (Seventh Tree)
Apr. 28th, 2008 10:17 pmMy favorite thing about Seventh Tree is the fact that it will confuse the shit out of everyone flocking in for Supernature 2.0. It's very soft and slow. It doesn't go anywhere. It's liquidly narcoleptic.
"Little Bird" is my favorite. Listen carefully.
"Clowns" is "Hairy Trees" redux. Not awful, but not fantastic.
I have a happy, shiny warm place in my heart for "Happiness".
"Road to Somewhere" is the one song I think could have benefitted from a touch more pickup/pep/drive. It's missing a little something.
"Eat Yourself" doesn't register as remarkable to me, so I haven't listened to it all the way through.
"Some People" is deeply boring until around or about 2:40, when it becomes slightly less boring for the last half of the song.
"A&E" just sounds...off...in a way I can't quantify.
The strings stinger in "Cologne Cerrone Houdini" puts my teeth on edge; otherwise, it's a decend Bond nod-to ala` "Pilots".
"Caravan Girl" is the most accessible song on the album, though it probably won't get any radio play.
"Monster Love" has just a little menace to its melancholy, and is a nice, competent finisher.
On the whole, this is one of those solid, drowsy efforts that I will appreciate on those nights I'm too terrified to actually sleep but want to rest.
And I LOVE the cover.
That's all.
