Making soap is a pain in the ass. However, pure castile soap is easily, easily purchased at the average pretentious bobo health food store, and pretty cheap, considering a little box of the Dawn dishwasher pill things is like twelve bucks.

GALLON OF SOAP = about $15.

Why do we want this? FOR MAKING OUR OWN HOUSEHOLD CLEANERS WITH.

Because I am super amazingly sensitive to fumes of any kind. You may recall the coughing blood incident? Jheti + fumes = srs bns.

Anyway, here is a "counter spray" type cleaner recipe that works on bathroom and kitchen (food safe) sinks, bathtubs, etc. etc. and is safe for cloth/clothing/plastic and most kinda porous surfaces. DO NOT USE ON WOOD.

You can get the hippie-dippy items at your local health food store.

Go get:

1tsp. borax
1/2tsp. Arm and Hammer Washing Soda crystals (find those here or at any Asda; it's apparently well-known in the UK)
2tbsp. white vinegar
1/2 tsp. liquid castile soap
20 drops tea tree essential oil
2 cups just-boiled, super hot water
1 sprayer bottle

And DO THIS:

1) Mix borax, washing soda, vinegar and castile soap in a big measuring cup/glass (at least 3-cup container, to be safe.) I LOVE YOU, PYREX *ahem*.

2) Slowly add the super-hot water.

3) Let stand 20 mins. or until cooled; add tea tree oil. (This adds extra magical disinfecting powers and also makes the cleaner smell more, well, cleaner-y.)

4) Pour in sprayer bottle.

5) GO CLEAN STUFF.

NOTES AND SUGGESTIONS: Based on a recipe at Gorgeously Green. Makes about 24oz. AND ACTUALLY WORKS; I have tested it.

I bet a drop or two of lemongrass oil would make it smell even more awesome, but have not yet tested this.
